Upgrade Fiber Backbone
The VA is undergoing a change from CPRS to a Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform, and VA Puget Sound is at the forefront of this change as one of two sites chosen as the first to adopt the new EHR, Cerner Millennium. This project assessed the existing fiber optic network and provided design for a fiber optic system that provided the required connectivity speeds within and between buildings on the American Lake campus of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System to support new Cerner EHR.
Our team provided all professional services required to assess the existing fiber optic network at the American Lake campus, and upgraded the fiber optic network (interior and exterior) per the VA Infrastructure Standards for Telecommunications Spaces Version 2.2, Feb 19, 2019 and VA Telecommunications and Special Telecommunications Systems Design Manual to support new Cerner EHR. Key personnel from our team provide site design, including trenching, excavation, boring under roadways, new infrastructure, etc., where necessary for installation of new fiber network, and utilized existing infrastructure to the greatest extent possible. Project is set to be completed in early 2020
